Just Cause

Once I missed a court date. I had just cause because I never received the notice to appear.

However, reading that I had to provide just cause or suffer implied consequences made me nervous. When I say something made me nervous, it’s my way of understating that I was planning an escape route to a cave in Canada. Walter Mitty has nothing on me.

For whatever reason, I adapted a Southern accent and said, “Uh, jest CAUSE!” We all had a jolly good chuckle while the bailiff cuffed me.

Actually the matter was settled easily, but I hate to waste a good joke.

These characters are me divided up into little parts, and that was a nice combination of the Claremont and Berle in me working together.
